This is a charming, small town along the ocean in Mendocino County that looks like it belongs in Maine and not California. It has some nice shops and galleries, great restaurants and excellent lodging. Mendocino Art Center: At 45200 Little Lake St., this is a local arts center established in 1959 with gallery space as well as a number of artist studios. They also also offer classes in fine art, ceramics, fiber art, sculpture/blacksmithing and jewelry.

It is also home to the Mendocino Theatre Company which offers productions throughout the year.

The Highlight Gallery: Located at 45094 Main St., this is a lovely gallery featuring crafts and art from glass and pottery to furniture and sculpture. They feature the work of over 200 regional and national artists and craftspeople.
