New Orleans – The Garden District

I really like the art galleries and antique stores on Magazine Street which runs through the Garden District and Uptown. It is not touristy compared to the French Quarter. The area between Louisiana and Napoleon is quite good. There are a number of good restaurants as well. I liked the store Fleur D’Orleans where the owner creates great jewelry and other decorative items with the designs she finds in the architectural details of the city.

Once a month, the Arts Council of New Orleans has an art market featuring art and handicrafts from local artists. It is at the corner of S. Carrollton and S. Claiborne Avenue in Uptown.  You can take the Saint Charles Streetcar line to the last stop.

Walk or drive through the Garden District with its wonderful homes. Commander’s Palace in the Garden District, at 1403 Washington Ave., is one of the best restaurants in the city.
