Just northwest of downtown, this is an area of restaurants, galleries and boutiques. I walked through the very busy Saturday Mercato farmer’s market which had great gourmet foods, produce, flowers, bakery items and coffee vendors. It is well worth the visit.

Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego: After visiting the Mercato in Little Italy, I walked a few short blocks to the downtown location of the Museum of Contemporary art at 1100 Kettner Boulevard. Exhibitions are located in two buildings. There were some interesting exhibitions, but I prefer the La Jolla location if you must choose.

In between is the Amtrak/Santa Fe Depot Train Station so make sure to walk through the attractive hall with great tile work.
