There are some wonderful hotels in Cartagena to choose from. Our recommendations include:
Casablanca: This is a stunning, small boutique hotel with 12 beautiful suites located in a former 19th century house. There is a small pool on the first level with lovely dining room. There is a beautiful sitting area on the second floor and a rooftop pool and terrace area. The design, fabrics and accessories in the common areas are very elegant. There are exposed stone walls and old tile details. My room was one of the prettiest I have ever stayed in. Beautifully done in white tones with a huge and sleek bathroom. The bed and bedding was great and very comfortable!! This is the perfect place to crash after a long trip. Calle de Tejadillo #38-71.
Other good options in the historic center include the Casa San Agustin, a small boutique hotel in a colonial building with 30 rooms and a lovely courtyard and garden. It is located at Calle de la Universidad #36-44.
Also getting great reviews is a really elegant and stylish property, Tcherassi Hotel at Calle del Sargento Mayor #6-21.
The Sofitel Legend Santa Clara, was converted from a beautiful 17th century convent. It is a large hotel but the old courtyard is lovely. Stop in for coffee on the patio and see the Botero sculpture in the garden.
You might also check out Bodegas de Santa Clara, which is a smaller boutique hotel with a sleek contemporary design near the old city walls. 29 Carrera 2 #39.
