Healdsburg has some excellent hotel choices.

My favorite place to stay in Healdsburg is the Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza. It has great rooms and a wonderful breakfast served in a bright room overlooking the downtown Plaza. I highly recommend this property. It is a part of the Four Sisters Inns, a collection of boutique inns throughout California. 112 Matheson St.

Two other great properties have recently opened. H2hotel which is a sister property to the Hotel Healdsburg. It has 36 rooms and is totally green. It has a really great design and layout. Guests check in at the lobby “receptobar,” which also sells gifts and snacks. It seems hip and young and I would definitely stay there on my next trip. Their Spoonbar is a great spot for a drink, snack or a great meal.

The second are the Healdsburg Modern Cottages. Located just north of the Plaza at 425 Foss St. There are four cottages each named after mid-century furniture designers. They are attractive and offer more privacy than the local hotels, inns and bed & breakfasts. It is managed by the people who own Barndiva.

Other options include the top-of-line Hotel Healdsburg at 25 Matheson St. It is a wonderful boutique hotel right on the Plaza. Friends also like the Honor Mansion, wine country resort.

At thee lower end of the spectrum is the Best Western Dry Creek Inn at 198 Dry Creek Rd., a short drive from the Plaza. It is a good option with some renovated rooms, a fitness center and breakfast. I stayed there for several nights, on a past trip, when looking at real estate in the area.

Getting great reviews is the new Harmon Guest House at 227 Healdsburg Ave. which is part of the same group as the Hotel Healdsburg and the H2hotel. It has an outstanding contemporary design with attractive rooms and a rooftop bar and restaurant.

Also new downtown is the Hotel Trio, a Residence Inn by Marriott. It is a 122-unit, all-suite hotel with a complimentary breakfast and coffee and wine bar.

If you want to stay in Sonoma, I would check out the Inn at Sonoma, near the Plaza and a Four Sisters property. If you want a larger property you might enjoy the Sonoma Mission Inn. I have stayed there in the past and eaten there on other occasions. It has more dining options and has a very good spa.

Opened in December, 2020 was the highly anticipated Montage Healdsburg. It is recommended for its beautiful design, restaurants and wine country location of 258 acres of rolling vineyards and oak tree groves. 100 Montage Way.
