Portland has some great hotel options. Our favorites include:

Ace: Located in downtown Portland at 1022 SW Harvey Milk St., this is a fun, hip boutique hotel attracting a young crowd. You will find a lobby where everyone is connected online, a Stumptown coffee shop off the lobby to the right and the casual restaurant, Clyde Common, to the left.

Jupiter: Located at Burnside on the East Side, this is a hip, boutique hotel, in a renovated motor inn, that attracts a young crowd. Here you will find the Doug Fir Restaurant and Lounge. The restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, has a retro décor. The lounge has several music acts and concerts each week. 800 E. Burnside.

They just added the Jupiter NEXT next door with 67 rooms and a restaurant and bar. It is more luxurious than the Jupiter and has great city views. It looks great. I would also imagine that it is also quieter  than the Jupiter due to its Doug Fir Restaurant and Lounge next door.

Hotel Modera: At 515 SW Clay in downtown Portland, this was a former Days Inn that was converted into a sleek, contemporary hotel with sleek outdoor patio, great art and an attractive restaurant, Nel Centro. This is the perfect place to stay that is not one of the hipper boutique hotels that might have noise issues or one of the older, downtown historic hotels.

McMenamin’s Kennedy School Hotel: Having read about this renovation of a former school into a hotel and restaurant complex, I had to check this out! They did a great job in the renovation of the once-abandoned historic elementary school that opened in 1915. There are 57 hotel rooms, some fashioned from former classrooms complete with the original chalkboards and clockrooms, a restaurant with multiple small bars and great outdoor patio, a movie theater, and brewery. You will find the hallways covered by original artwork and historical photographs.

If you love historical properties, then check out two other historic properties, the Heathman Hotel at 1001 SW Broadway and the Bensen Hotel at 309 SW Broadway, celebrating 100 years with it beautiful wood lobby and lobby bar. Tea at the Heathman during the holidays is a local tradition.

I also checked out Northrup Station at 2025 NW Northrup St. It is close to downtown and is an older property, from the 1970’s, that has been transformed into a very modern and colorful inn.
