Just south of Mendocino is a small town of Elk. Here you will find:
Queenie’s Roadhouse: This is a well-known breakfast and lunch restaurant located in a building from 1902. 6061 S. Highway 1.
On a nice day, you might pick up a sandwich at the Elk Store and walk across the street to Greenwood Beach which has picnic tables overlooking the rocks and the coast below. The views are spectacular. 6101 S. Highway 1.
Point Arena California:
Don’t miss the historic Point Arena Lighthouse which is the tallest on the Pacific coast. It is a two mile drive from Highway 1. Make sure to stop at the vista points along the way, as the views of the coast are exceptional.
I had a good lunch in Point Arena at the Pier Chowder House & Tap Room at 790 Port Rd. Here you can eat overlooking the rugged coast, water and pier. It is known for its award winning chowders.
