Vienna has some wonderful hotel options from small boutique properties to larger luxury properties. My recommendations include:

Altstadt Vienna: This is a small boutique hotel, created from an old apartment building, where I first stayed 15 years ago. It is a lovely property with small living room and bar and several dining rooms where you can enjoy the ample breakfast buffet. The rooms are contemporary in design, but have some of the elegance of the old building. It is located in a residential neighborhood, the Seventh District, near the MuseumsQuartier and near many local restaurants, design shops and bars. Kirchengasse 41.

Hotel Sacher: This is one of the most famous, traditional hotels in Vienna from 1886. If you want the royal treatment then this is for you. At least stop in at the Café Sacher for a taste of their famous Sacher Torte. Philharmoniker Str. 4.

The Guest House: At Fuchrichgasse 10, this is a 39 room, contemporary boutique hotel, designed by Sir Terence Conran of Conran & Partners. The Hotel is located between the State Opera and Stephansplatz and across from the Albertina Museum. They have an attractive restaurant, the Brasserie & Bakery, on the lower level. It is a member of Design Hotels.

The Imperial Hotel is also one of the finest in Vienna and is located in a former private palace. Karntner Ring 16.

The Hotel Daniel is also on several top lists for its contemporary design. Landstrasser Gurtel 5.

The Hollmann Beletage, in a renovated art nouveau town house, is also recommended for it great design. Its restaurant around the corner just closed. I had a really excellent meal and loved the contemporary Austrian design. Hopefully it will re-open under a new chef.
