I am disappointed to report that three of the restaurants I tried have closed for re-branding. I will just have to go back and check out the new concepts. I am planning my trip now. Recommended restaurants in the press include Searsucker in downtown and Del Mar taking over from Burlap, Addison in Delmar, Craft & Commerce, the Lost Abbey for craft beer tastings in their tasting room, Vin de Syrah Sprit & Wine Parlor and C Level for great ocean views. For tacos there is Carnitas’ Snack Shack, El Paisa Mexican Grill and Bluewater Grill. Extraordinary Desserts sounds great also for brunch.

In nearby La Jolla, there are other great dining options as well.

Piatti: I had a wonderful evening with friends on the patio of this Italian restaurant. The pasta special with scallops was really excellent. The place was buzzing and loud which is a good sign of great food. It is located at 2182 Avenida de la Playa in La Jolla Shores. Barbarella Restaurant, across the street at 2171, is another good option that I have tried in the past.

Caroline’s Seaside Cafe: So glad my friends introduced me to Caroline’s. Located in an attractive contemporary building at the UCSD Scripps Institute of Oceanography, this is an upstairs restaurant right on the beach. With an outdoor deck plus indoor seating, it is the perfect spot for brunch!!! It is located at 8610 Kennel Way.

Nine-Ten has also received great reviews in several publications as has George’s California Modern and The Cottage.
