The Mekong Delta, listed in the 1000 Places to See Before You Die book, is a must to visit when you are in Vietnam. Highlights of my trip included:

On the way I visited the Vinh Trang Pagoda in My Tho. I did a boat trip to Vin Long with a visit to An Binh Island and a local house. I also had lunch in a local house nearby. It was very rustic after being in the hustle and bustle of the city.

I spent two nights in the Victoria Hotel and Resort in the southern City of Can Tho which is the largest city of the Delta. The hotel was nice and the suites large. The food was decent and I enjoyed eating on the terrace overlooking the Mekong River.

I was able to cruise the Mekong as well as explore the great floating market at Cai Rang in a sampan boat and saw all types of boats and sampans engaged in the buying and selling of fruits, vegetables and fish. On the way, I also took a boat trip through the winding back canals of the Mekong Delta. Life has not changed there in hundreds of years.
