Austin has a huge food truck/trailer culture making it one of the top “Foodie” cities in the US. Check their websites as the trucks often change locations. Here are my favorites. Just don’t notice that many feature cupcakes, donuts or ice cream! I do want to also point out that Austin is growing very rapidly and there is a considerable amount of new commercial and residential construction. Often, a group of food trucks are located together on vacant lots, so just be aware that they might change locations if the lot has been sold or developed.

Gourdough Big Fat Donuts: Now located at 1503 S. First Street, this is a food truck housed in a vintage Air Stream trailer that was featured in the NY Times and on the Travel Channel. The donuts are simply huge and totally awesome. A perfect place for a snack!

Veracruz All Natural: Located at 1704 E. Cesar Chavez, this is a food truck recommended by my hotel for its outstanding tacos.

East Side King: Don’t miss Top Chef Paul Qui’s food truck for globally inspired Japanese food. It is on the east side of Austin at 1618 E. 6th St.

Hey Cupcake!: While exploring SoCo and the many shops, antique shops, coffee cafes and food trucks, stop in at the original Hey Cupcake! for great cupcakes and desserts at 1511 S. Congress. Don’t miss the 24 Carrot – carrot cake with a cream cheese top!

In the East End on East 6th Street you will find many bars, music venues, restaurants and food trucks. Often a bar or music venue will have a food truck on their property as well.
