London has some of the best hotels in the world. They can be expensive so it might take some research to find a reasonable rate. My favorites include:

Number Sixteen, 16 Sumner Place: This was a wonderful small boutique hotel in South Kensington close to the West End, Chelsea, Knightsbridge and Hyde Park. It was by far my favorite hotel that I have stayed in, in London.

The Connaught: At 16 Carlos Place in Mayfair, this is one of best and most elegant hotels in town. It has a wonderful bar and restaurant. I had tea there recently at the Espelette Restaurant, 40 years after having tea there with my parents.

Kennington Bed and  Breakfast: Located at 103 Kennington Park Road, this was a great choice, for my stay, which I found on Trip Advisor. It is a quarter block from the Tube Station on the Northern Line. I had a great room overlooking the garden in the back, at a very good value for London, with flat screen TV, WiFi and a great bath. The owners were great and very helpful with restaurant suggestions and directions. In the morning, there was a really good selection for breakfast with choices of yogurts, fresh fruit, juices, cereals, waffles, pancakes, croissants and bread for toast, teas and coffee. It was like I was staying in a private home. There were a number of families with children, as it is kid-friendly also. Thanks Sian for a great stay!

The Beaumont Hotel is located in Mayfair, close to the art galleries and Hyde Park. This classic, elegant hotel was included in Wallpaper* Magazine’s ‘Best Urban Hotels’ list.

There have been many recent openings in London that we have been following. For other good choices you might consider:

London Edition by Marriott and Ian Schrager, Citizen M Hotel London Bankside, South Place Hotel, One Leicester Street, ME Hotel, Sloane Square Hotel, Ampersand Hotel in South Kensington, The Langham, Great Northern, Soho and 40 Winks.

Jetsetter.com recently featured several hotels with less expensive rates. These include the Ampersand and Citizen M mentioned above along with Fox & Anchor with rooms over a pub, The Culpeper also with rooms over a pub, The Laslett in Notting Hill, Generator Hostel London, The Hoxton – Holborn, Portobello Hotel and The Corner London (formerly the Qbic Hotel London). There is also a Hoxton in Shoreditch. I always like trying to find hotels under $200 to $250 a night.
