If you’re wondering where to eat in Saugatuck, there are some great restaurants for both casual and fine dining. I have been going over to Saugatuck for many years from Chicago and always love checking out the new dining spots.

Hercules: On my last trip, I enjoyed a great meal and service at Hercules, an attractive, upscale restaurant downtown. Hercules was sold and has closed and it is now Coast 236 Restaurant & Bar.  They have a lovely garden in back during the summer months. The comfortable, back dining room is also a great spot to dine on colder nights. I am excited to try it on my next trip. 236 Culver St.

Marro’s Italian Restaurant

Other great options include:

Phil’s Bar & Grill, Marro’s Italian Restaurant for classic Italian dishes, Bowdie’s Chop House  and Ida Red’s Cottage for breakfast and brunch  Ida Red’s is one of my favorites.

Recently renovated and under new ownership, Pumpernickel’s at 202 Butler is a fun spot for breakfast and lunch while the Mermaid Bar & Grill offers casual dining on the waterfront at 340 Water St.  Local friends love The Butler for great burgers. 40 Butler St.

On my list for my next trip is Pennyroyal Cafe and Provisions. This is a cafe that  that features seasonal, home-style cuisine and locally sourced ingredients. GROW Café + Bistro also gets good reviews for it upscale menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  302 Culver St.

During the summer season make sure to stop in for ice cream at the Saugatuck Drug Store Soda Fountain, located in the rear of the local drug store at 201 Butler St. It is a classic from the past and has been there since 1913.

I just read about The Southerner, a dockside spot for Southern cuisine by a 2014 James Beard Award semi-finalist chef Matthew Millar. I can’t wait to try it on my next trip. 800 Holland St.

Along the waterfront is The Butler for burgers, steaks and seafood. 40 Butler St.

Saugatuck Brewing Company, a local brewery features a large Pub with an extensive food menu and 16 taps along with hard cider and wine and a seasonal patio for outdoor dining. The newest feature to be added is known as The Barrel Room, a second tap room located in the same building, just down the hall from the main pub. 2948 Blue Star Hwy. Douglas.

New Holland Brewing brews several beers and distills a number of spirits from gin, vodka, rum and whiskey at three locations in Holland and Grand Rapids, Michigan. They recently opened a new brew pub in Saugatuck at 201 Culver St. I have been to the Holland location and loved the Beer Barrel Bourbon and have it at home! You can have a cocktail or tasting.

Another brewery to checkout includes Mitten Brewing at 329 Water St. for one of their ales, IPAs, stouts, lagers and porters
