A local friend in Crested Butte suggests The Grand Lodge, near the ski mountain, as a good property. The Purple Mountain Bed & Breakfast is another good option, as is Elk Mountain Lodge, both downtown. Since my bed and breakfast had closed since I was there last, I chose the Purple Mountain Bed & Breakfast, with six rooms, to stay on my recent trip.

This is a great spot to stay just outside of downtown at 714 Gothic Ave. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the owners, Chris and Mollie Haver, were very friendly and helpful and the gourmet breakfasts were very good. My room, the Crested Butte, was located upstairs. I think next time I would choose the Teocalli King Room, the only room on the first floor. It is larger and a little quieter. They also provide daily local beer tastings, massages, free bikes to use in town, a tea and hot chocolate bar and other services.

Elk Mountain Lodge, is a little closer to downtown and Elk Ave. and is located in an historic 1929 miner’s hotel at 129 Gothic Ave.
