This is St. Louis’ oldest historic district that is a National Historic District. The neighborhood surrounds a 30-acre Victorian Park, the oldest west of the Mississippi. The beautiful homes of the neighborhood have been restored and the area along Park Ave. has attracted a number of restaurants, bars, shops and other businesses. There are events in the park and in the neighborhood throughout the year including home and garden tours, an antique fair, movies in the park and Holiday Parlor Tour.
Park Avenue Coffee: A casual, local’s hangout for good coffee and coffee drinks. It has comfortable indoor seating and a lovely outdoor patio in the rear. 1919 Park Ave.
Baileys’ Chocolate Bar, at 1915 Park Ave., is nearby. Here you will find a large number of chocolate martinis, hot chocolates, coffee, shakes, floats, desserts, cheese plates and other entrees including pizzas, sandwiches and salads.
Square One Brewery & Distillery: At 1727 Park Ave., this distillery has a full menu of food, craft beers, blondes, ales and stouts and spirits from the distillery including rums and whiskey.
SQWIRES, at 1415 S. 18th, is a fun spot for a casual dinner. It is open for lunch, dinner and brunch. The atmosphere is better than the food, however.
