Jim Thompson Thai Silk or the Thai Silk Company Ltd.: Don’t miss the main store location at 9 Surawong Rd., Suriyawong, Bangrak. This is one of my favorite stores in the world. I make a beeline to the store as soon as I arrive. It has amazing Thai silk fabric, home accessories, pillows and picture frames all on several floors. There are amazing ties, scarves, purses and clothes. A great place to stock up on Christmas gifts. There is a nice restaurant offering Thai specialties which is a great place to have lunch while shopping!
River City Art & Antique Center: Take the boat from your hotel (or a taxi) to the River City Shopping Center which is one of Southeast Asia’s largest centers for art and antiques. I have purchased several pieces in the past. It was my first exposure to Burmese lacquerware which is my favorite. 23 Trok Rongnamkhaeng, Si Phaya Pier, Yota Road, Sampantawong, Bangkok.
For having clothes made, the tailor located in the shopping mall attached to the Oriental Hotel is excellent.
