This four city block area, that was a former apple-packing plant, is now home to food producers, winemakers, brewers, distillers, artists and more. The Barlow is getting some great national press as a great new “Foodie Destination” to explore. Highlights include:
Taylor Lane Organic Coffee: At 6790 McKinley St. #170, this is a local coffee roaster serving very good coffee and coffee drinks in a fun atmosphere.
Woodfour Brewing Company: This is a local microbrewery that also serves locally inspired food and cheese. They are known for their saisons, barrel aged ales and sour beers. 6780 Depot St.
Wind Gap Wines is now part of Pax Mahle Wines. At 6780 McKinley St. #170, this is a tasting room featuring their roses, pinot noirs, grenaches, nebbiolos and syrahs.
There is also The Nectary for juices and smoothies.
There are have some changes to the tenant mix since I was there last. New spots include Acre Pizza, Barrio for Mexican street food and The Farmer’s Wife which features sandwiches, open-faced tartines, soups, salads, and cookies, as well as an all-day breakfast menu. There is also Sushi Koshō and Fern Bar for cocktails, small plates and American cuisine, and Two Dog Night Creamery for great ice cream and Wm. Cofield Cheesmaker for British-style cheeses.
There is also Crooked Goat Brewing, Golden State Cider, Kosta Browne Winery and Seismic Brewing Company along with a number of shops and galleries. Check out the website for the Barlow as there are events and live music throughout the year. Golden State Cider is produced from an orchard that started in 1883. They started producing cider in 2012 and are known for their Save the Gravenstein and Fool’s Gold brands.
