Just northeast of downtown is Eastern Market. Here you will find a large area with over 100 shops and restaurants.The Eastern Market is a historic landmark about a mile from the heart of downtown, it is positioned to the north of Gratiot Avenue and south of Mack Avenue. It earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and is currently the largest of its kind in the United States.
There are also food trucks, public art and bike trails. Don’t miss their Saturday Market, a huge farmers market from 6am to 4pm every Saturdy all year-round ; the Sunday Street Market featuring art, crafts and food trucks every Sunday from June through September from 1oam to 4pm and a smaller scale Tuesday Market similar to Saturday which includes food, drinks, music, art, and shopping every Tuesday June-September from 9am to 3pm.

Germack Roasting Company: Make sure to visit Germack Roasting Company at 2517 Russell St. They also have a large selection of coffee, nuts, trail mixes, nut butters, chocolates and dried fruits for sale.
Vivio’s Eastern Market: Since 1967, this is a casual bar and restaurant featuring American pub food in a classic atmosphere. This is a great spot for lunch for lunch. I had a great Reuben Grill sandwich with sweet potato tots. I will definitely try the mussels next time. They are also known for their extensive Bloody Mary menu.
DeVries & Co.: This is a small, local gourmet grocery store from 1887, that has a large selection of cheeses and specialty foods.
Anthology Coffee: At 1948 Division #102, this is a local coffee roaster and cafe that is a great spot to stop for a latte in its contemporary space.
Louisiana Creole Gumbo: Started in 1970, this is a cajun and creole restaurant serving authentic Louisiana and southern-style fare from the owner’s Mother in the Louisiana bayou. I will definitely try it on my next visit to the area. 2051 Gratiot
Zeff’s Coney Island: This is a popular restaurant, since 1970, serving coney dogs, burgers, subs, and a wide variety of breakfast food inclujding omelets and French toast.2469 Russell St.
Frank’s Deli & Grill: At 3401-3445 Russell St. this is a local deli cafe featuring Wrigley’s famous corned beef. They offer breakfast dishes, sandwiches, pasta and pizza.
Louie’s Ham and Corned Beef: This is a diner-style spot with counter seats and booths, serving burgers, deli sandwiches and all-day breakfast dishes. 3570 Riopelle St.
Locals like Trinosophes, a vegetarian cafe and coffee shop, museum, performance space and art gallery at 1464 Gratiot Ave.
Also check out Detroit City Distillery at 2462 Riopelle St. Their tasting room features cocktails and their small batch, artisanal rye whiskey, bourbon, gin and vodka.
Eastern Market Brewing Co: This is a community-focused craft brewery and taproom at 2510 Riopelle. Here you can taste on of their several brews including ales, kolsch, sours, IPAs, porters and stouts.
