If you have time, make sure to visit The Heidelberg Project on the east side of Detroit. This is an outdoor art project created in 1986 by artist Tyree Guyton and his grandfather Sam Mackey. It first started by him painting a series of houses with bright dots or many colors and attached salvaged items to the houses. It helped transform a hard-core inner city neighborhood. In the last few years some of the houses have unfortunately burned down. Some of the foundations are now used for art displays. You can walk and find painted dots on the street, painted faces on the sidewalks, sculptures made of toys, shoes and dolls, large painted clocks and much more. 3600 Heidelberg St.
