The Norton Museum: Known for its collection of more than 7,000 works including European, Impressionist, Modern Masters and American art from 1900 to the present. Artists include Monet, Gauguin, Chagall, Matisse, Picasso, Georgia O’Keeffe, Bellows and Stella. It also has a large collection of Chinese jades and bronze vessels. There are temporary exhibitions as well. The Museum offers lectures, curator’s conversations, music performances,tours, art classes and family programs. Food choices include The Restaurant at The Norton for coastal cuisine and The Coffee Bar at The Norton serving Parliament Cofee along with pastries and sandwiches. 1451 S. The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts: Features national and international performances in dance, opera, classical music and more. 701 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach.
The Flagler Museum: Well-worth the visit is the Flagler Museum at One Whitehall Way. Henry Flagler was a founding partner with John D. Rockefeller in the Standard Oil Company. He later began to do real estate development in Florida. By 1912, his Florida East Coast Railway and luxury hotels were built along the east coast of the state from Jacksonville to Key West. In 1902, he built Whitehall with more than 75 rooms as a winter retreat. Today, Whitehall is the lovely Flagler Museum, where you can visit the main rooms on the first and second floor. The rooms are grand and beautifully decorated.
The Museum offers many activities throughout the year including a tour of Flagler’s The Breakers built in 1925. There are gallery talks, exhibitions, holiday events and lectures, music performances. You might enjoy lunch or afternoon tea in the Museum’s Cafe Des Beaux-Arts.
The Society of The Four Arts: Located near the Flagler Museum, this is a popular arts destination in Palm Beach known for art exhibitions, dance and music performances, lectures, workshops and classes, film screenings and book discussion groups. There are two libraries as well as many special events. 2 Four Arts Plaza.
Worth Avenue for Shopping: This is a wonderful shopping street to explore featuring high end galleries, stores from Tiffany & Company and Giorgio Armani to Hermes and Ralph Lauren, plus some great restaurants. There is even Worth Avenue Yachts if you are in the market for a new purchase! There are many hidden courtyards called Vias, so make sure to explore as you will find some great shops and some of the better restaurants hidden from the street.
