Just south of downtown Austin is Rainey Street which is a popular restaurant, bar and entertainment district. Many of the venues have outdoor seating.

Here you can find:

Hotel Van Zandt: I always like Kimpton Hotels. Their new Austin property is just south of downtown at Rainey St. It is walking distance to bars and restaurants, plus a short drive to East Austin and the South Congress Street area. Geraldine’s, their rooftop restaurant, overlooking the pool, is a great spot to eat. I enjoyed a great Easter brunch with friends which included a very good menu and live music. As parking can be tight in the neighborhood, they do offer valet parking with free validation if you eat at the restaurant.

Container Bar: At 90 Rainey St., this fun venue has been recently featured in several publications as it is constructed of seven stacked shipping containers. Don’t miss stopping in for a drink or at least to see the architecture!

Another good dining option is Emmer & Rye, featuring the best in local ingredients. Chef Kevin Fink was named one of Food & Wine Magazine’s Best new chefs in 2016. 51 Rainey St.

Architecture buffs, will like the The Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC) at 600 River St., near the end of Rainey St. Designed by CasaBella Architects in Austin, this is a contemporary facility located along the Lady Bird Lake Trail. You might check the website for a calendar of events and performances.
