Just five miles north of downtown Kansas City, Parkville is an historic river town known for its charming downtown with restaurants, antique shops, home furnishing stores and art galleries. It is home to Park University, formerly Park College. I found it is a great spot to spend a day or an afternoon while in the area. It is an easy drive on the way to or from the Kansas City airport. My recent finds include:
Cafe des Amis: Owned by the charming French couple, Ingrid & Guillaume Hanriot, this small upstairs bistro, featuring French specialties, is a wonderful spot for lunch of dinner. I enjoyed a lovely quiche and salad for lunch. They do have a nice deck outside during the warmer months. 112 Main St.
Parkville Coffee: This is a local coffee roaster with a great location at 103 Main St. In addition to great coffee drinks, they feature bakery items and a menu of sandwiches, salads, quiche and soups.
Samsara Vintage Home: At 12 East St. this is a boutique featuring vintage, classic and rustic furniture and home furnishings. They offer remodeling services as well. The three owners are delightful.
Farm House Collection: One of three locations, this is a boutique at 104 Main St. featuring jewelry, candles, bath and body products from soaps to lotions and attractive enamel ware.
You might enjoy the Parkville Farmer’s Market held downtown from the end of April to the end of October.
