There are many hotels/motels to choose from in Wildwood. However I feel that most are crowded with families and groups, so they can be very noisy particularly during the high summer season. I chose to stay in Cape May and drive north to Wildwood for the day. Cape May is just 10 miles away. I recommend that you do the same.
But even if you don’t stay in town, do check out The Doo Wop Motel District in Wildwood Crest. It was great fun to explore many of the more than 50 mid-century hotels still there. There are more than 200 if you include those in the Motel District with those in Wildwood and North Wildwood. “In fact,” claims architectural photographer Darren Bradley, “there’s probably a higher concentration of architecture of this type here than anywhere else in the world.” I loved the colors, the architecture and the many old neon signs. Some of the properties are now gone, but there is a big push by the Doo Wop Preservation League to preserve the history and avoid losing any more in the future. Make sure to download the walking guide so you can see them on your own. Guided tours are also available through the Doo Wop Preservation League Museum.
