Piatti: I had a wonderful evening with friends on the patio of this Italian restaurant. The pasta special with scallops was really excellent. The place was buzzing and loud which is a good sign of great food. It is located at 2182 Avenida de la Playa in La Jolla Shores.
Barbarella Restaurant, across the street at 2171, is another good option that I have tried in the past.
Caroline’s Seaside Cafe: So glad my riends introduced me to Caroline’s. Located in an attractive contemporary building at the UCSD Scripps Institute of Oceanography, this is an upstairs restaurant right on the beach. It has an outdoor deck plus indoor seating. It is the perfect spot for brunch!!! It is located at 8610 Kennel Way.
Other recommended places to try by Eater.com include the neighborhood restaurant Candor by Guiseppe, The elegant Marine Room for fine dining with oceanfront views, Nine-Ten Restaurant and Bar, Galaxy Taco and Puesto for casual Mexican food, Catania Coastal Italian and El Pescador Fish Market for great seafood. The Promiscuous Fork is known for burgers, sandwiches and Southern food and the casual The Cottage for breakfast and brunch. Himitsu is also recommended for sushi.
