Seeing the world is life changing and we love giving back to those communities that give us so much from having traveled there.

Here are the projects we recommend supporting:

Room To Read

Room to Read believes that World Change Starts with Educated Children. From day one, the organization has been recognized for using business practices to achieve scalability, sustainability and results. To date they have been extremely successful with over 13,000 libraries established, 1,587 schools built, 707 original local language children’s books published with millions distributed, and more than 13,500 girls participating in Girls’ Education programs. All in all, over six million children have benefited to Room to Read projects in Asia and Africa. They were recently featured in the New York Times by award-winning author and journalist Nicholas Kristof.

Behind each number is the compelling story of a child, who, through an unfortunate roll of the dice, had challenges in accessing and attending school, but is now attentively sitting in class and soaking up knowledge. They tell the tale of a brightly painted library, stocked with books and games, where children and community members can discover a world beyond their own. Stories like these are endless, and they all continue to fill me with optimism for the future.

The Curator helped to build a pre-school in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam and visited the facility and the children in 2006. He was amazed by the impact of a group of Chicagoans who funded the project.

Globalphile is proud to support Room to Read’s girl’s education programs in Asia and Africa.  As we grow and the number of our followers expands, we hope to be able to fund specific projects in those two regions. In the meantime, we encourage you to visit Room to Read to learn more about the work and make a direct contribution.

Asia Transpacific Foundation

Asia Transpacific Foundation is the charitable arm of Asia Transpacific Journeys. As travel specialists in Asia, they have developed a deep connection with the people who inhabit the regions they travel to. They established the Foundation in 1998 to deepen this connection, and return the kindness and generosity that has so touched  their lives, as well as the lives of their travelers. Together they embraced the opportunity to give back directly to these communities, year after year.

Beginning in 2002, Asia Transpacific Foundation pledged through its Clean Water Initiative , to provide clean water to children and families in need, with the goal of improving their standard of living and helping to ensure their future health and success.

Their current focus is on providing clean water in Thailand and Myanmar where they are producing water filters. The production of  these water filters and education efforts have created a village cottage industry producing hundreds of jobs for locals. This program, which our foundation piloted, also reduces emissions, since formerly these households boiled their water to purify it, cutting trees and burning the fuel to create fire in the process. Their initiative is drastically reducing tree harvesting and fire smoke. It’s a win-win for everyone.
