There many upscale boutiques in Cartagena offering women’s dresses, purses, jewelry and accessories. Just wander the streets around Plaza Bolivar.

Santo Domingo Handicrafts, Calle Santo Domingo #3-41: This is a more upscale gallery of local handicrafts and glass. You will find some very good home accessories. The inlaid wood pieces were excellent and I bought a small box to add to my collection. They have a second location, Upalema, with similar contemporary handcraft items located at Calle San Juan de Dios #3-99.

Plazoleta de Las Bovedas: This is the former military barracks and storage area, under the walls of the old city, that have been transformed to a group of artisan shops. Located in the San Diego neighborhood, here you will find emeralds, ceramics, wood, textiles, paintings and other local items. I had fun walking through the stores and buying several small items for my folk art collection. Some are more upscale than others. India Catalina II had some nicer items at Local #6.

Duran Design Studio, at Calle de Baloco #2-22, has some interesting, contemporary home accessories and throw pillows.

La Tienda del Museo: Located next to the Museo de Arte Moderno, this is a small museum shop that does have some home accessories and gift items that you might like. Plaza San Pedro Claver.
