Though there are several large resorts out of town, I really preferred staying closer in so I could get to downtown easily for the restaurants, cafes and shops.
I liked the Cloran Mansion Bed & Breakfast. I recommend this charming B&B at 1237 Franklin St., a short drive from downtown and on a quieter street than many of the other properties in town. The house was built in the 1880’s. The rooms are nicely appointed, the owners, Carmine and Cheryl Farruggia, very helpful and friendly and the family-style breakfasts very good. The tower room had a large king bed, with fireplace and a whirlpool in an area in the tower or cupola above the bathroom. There are a total of four rooms and a more private cottage across the driveway. They also have a studio condo available at the Eagle Ridge Resort outside of town.
The Desoto House is the old historic hotel downtown at 230 S. Main if you want to stay more in the middle town. It opened in April, 1855.
Also recommended outside of town are the Inn at Irish Hollow, Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa and the Goldmore Inn.
