Where to Stay in Kansas City

Kansas City

To stay in Kansas City, I suggest the boutique Raphael Hotel or the larger Intercontinental, both on the Plaza.

Recently opened, is the sleek Fontaine Hotel (formerly the Hotel Sorella Country Club Plaza), at 901 W. 48th Place, also on the Plaza. This boutique hotel has a contemporary restaurant and bar on the top floor, with great views. Stop in for a meal, drink or cup of tea. There is a lobby bar and restaurant where breakfast is served.

Downtown, the historic Savoy Hotel is being turned into a contemporary 21c Hotel. I will report back when it is open.

Also new downtown is the renovation of the historic Hotel Phillips from 1931. The hotel has been totally renovated with contemporary rooms, a coffee shop and basement speakeasy for a cocktails. 106 W. 12th St.

Getting good press is the Oak Street Mansion. At 4343 Oak, behind the Kansas City Art Institute, is a small boutique “art” hotel in a lovely old mansion from 1907. There are many pieces of fine art and sculpture throughout the hotel and grounds. Each of the eight rooms has a different theme, from impressionists and abstract to Cuban and street art. Breakfast and cocktails in the late afternoon are included.

Marriott has recently opened their  boutique AC Hotel in Westport. This is a perfect location from which to explore Westport, downtown KC and the Country Club Plaza. This contemporary designed property, has a sleek bar, lounge and restaurant serving breakfast.

Jefferson House Bed & Breakfast: With the growth of the Westside and Crossroads District in downtown Kansas City, this is a great location from which to base your visit. The Bed & Breakfast is located in an historic brick home dating from the late 1890s. 1728 Jefferson St.
