To stay in Kansas City, there are many options from downtown to the Crossroads District and from Westport to the Country Club Plaza.

I suggest the boutique Raphael Hotel or the larger Intercontinental, both on the Plaza as great places to stay.

Also great is is the sleek Fontaine Hotel (formerly the Hotel Sorella Country Club Plaza), at 901 W. 48th Place, also on the Plaza. This boutique hotel has a contemporary restaurant, the Parker Bar & Restuarant on the top floor, with great views. Stop in for a meal, drink or cup of tea.

New to downtown is the renovation of the historic Hotel Phillips from 1931. The hotel has been totally renovated with contemporary rooms, the Tavernonna Italian restaurant and a basement speakeasy for a cocktails and live music. 106 W. 12th St.

A few blocks south is the Hilton President Hotel where I stayed while in town for my niece’s wedding. It is in the Power & Light District at 1329 Baltimore. It has nice rooms along with the Walnut Room which serves breakfast and the historic Drum Room. It  first opened in 1941 and has hosted such celebrities as Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra and  Patsy Cline. The also have Providence New American Kitchen restaurant and a Starbucks coffee shop. It is a good spot to stay if you need to be downtown. They also have both self and valet parking as well.

Recently opened downtown is the 21c Museum Hotel Kansas City at 219 W. 9th. I am a big fan of this small boutique hotel group. I have stayed in their Bentonville, AR, Louisville, KY and Nashville, TN locations and eaten in the Lexington, KY hotel restaurant. They took over the former Savoy Hotel that from the early 1900s was a popular destination for those arriving in Kansas City by train.  21c has totally renovated the rooms and expanded and reopened the famed Savoy Grille at a total cost of over $50 million.

I enjoyed dining at the historic Savoy as a child and loved the traditional design. It was a popular spot for famous patrons including Harry Truman, Theodore Roosevelt, William Taft and John D. Rockefeller. With the opening of the 21c in 2018, they kept many of the historic elements in the bar area and opened a new, contemporary dining room next to it. We opted to eat in the bar area surrounded by the dark green tiles and historic murals.

Also downtown in the former Kansas Club building that opened in 1922, is the Hotel Kansas City. With 144 guest rooms and 15 suites, it also has the Lobby Bar, the Lobby Café, the Nighthawk bar downstairs and the lovely Town Country Restaurant.

Marriott has recently opened their boutique AC Hotel in Westport. This is a perfect location from which to explore Westport, downtown KC and the Country Club Plaza. This contemporary designed property, has a sleek bar, lounge and restaurant serving breakfast.

Crossroads Hotel: Located in the Crossroads Arts District, this is a recently opened boutique hotel. Located in an historic building, it has a sleek contemporary design. It has a number of room choices plus has its XR Cafe for coffee, drinks and food in the lobby, the more formal Lazia Restaurant for Italian food and its Percheron Rooftop Bar with great city views. I enjoyed drinks in the lobby with my family. It is a great addition to the city. 2101 Central.
