While in Siem Reap, I loved the Grand Hotel d’Angkor which is a Raffles hotel. It had great restaurants and a lovely pool and gardens. I found the best way to see the Angkor temples was to go out early and explore, come back and have lunch at the hotel and relax and then go out later in the day, before sunset, to see more sites. I think that way you avoid the heat of mid-day plus the photographs were better! So the hotel is important in that aspect since you will spend a few hours there during the day as well. It is located on over 15 acres and has been there since the 1930’s.
Other properties getting good reviews and press include the one suite, The One Hotel, the FCC Hotel, The Heritage Suites Hotel, The Victoria Angkor, The Park Hyatt Siem Reap, The Orient Express Hotel, La Residence d’Angkor and Amanresort’s Amansara. The Phum Baitang resort, outside of town, has also received great reviews.
I just read that Tablet Hotel’s has a new recommendation in the Shinta Mani Shack in Siem Reap’s French Quarter between The Royal Gardens and the Old Market Area. Trip Advisor’s Top Ranked Traveller’ Choice Award in 2018 was for the small boutique Viroth’s Hotel.
