Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, Kansas, is a neighborhood that was established in the late 19th century. Immigrants from Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Russia found a home there along the river’s hillside. It was originally known as Splitlog Hill. On my last trip, I visited this small neighborhood in Kansas City, KS, just west of the West Bottoms in Kansas City, MO. I highly recommend:

Slaps BBQ: Having seen this casual BBQ spot on several lists, I had to try it on my last trip to KC. I thought it was a fun spot with great food. You know it is popular when people are lining up outside! I had the brisket combo with pulled pork and two sides. I highly recommend it. 553 Central Ave.

After lunch I stopped in at Splitlog Coffee Co. across the street. It is a fun coffee shop, at 548 Central Ave., that serves coffee from Oddly Correct in KC.

Other spots in Strawberry Hill that I want to check out on my next trip include Breit’s Stein & Deli, along with several bars, including the 403 Club with pool and pinball, The Mockingbird Lounge for brunch and cocktails, and Johnnie’s on Seventh.
